The Goulburn Family and Cosmetic Dental Practice (formerly known as Dr Short’s Dental Surgery), was founded more than 40 years ago, making it one of the longest-running dental practices in the Goulburn community – and that is a badge we wear with honour.
Over the last four decades, we’ve been helping Goulburn residents of all ages achieve optimal dental health while making their experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, and we look forward to doing the same for you and your family.
As a family-owned business made up of a husband (Dr. Chintan Trivedi) and wife (Dr. Hema Joshi) dentist team, we are dedicated to providing you with the comprehensive, personalised and leading dental care you and your family deserve. Assisting with all aspects of dentistry under the one roof, we eliminate the need for long drives to specialists and long waiting lists that can take months.

Here at Goulburn Family and Cosmetic Dental Practice, we subscribe to the Golden Rule “treat others as you would like to be treated.” We are sensitive to the needs of our patients and understand the anxiety some patients can experience both before and during their dental check up. With this in mind, we take the time to calm their nerves and explain the unknown so they can start to relax.
We like to build life-long relationships with our patients and look after their dental health through every stage, to create a beautiful, healthy and confident smile. With patient comfort at the forefront of everything we do we work diligently and gently, providing pain relief when necessary to ensure comfort during and after an appointment. It’s this caring approach that has seen our practice grow by word-of- mouth alone.
Most of our adult patients had dental phobias growing up as a result of bad childhood experiences. We believe in managing those fears early on, so when it comes to treating our youngest patients we make sure they have a positive dental experience that helps them look forward to their next dental check up.
Unfortunately, there are people in the dental industry who are prepared to compromise on quality and cut corners with their patients’ dental care. We, however, are not one of them. We refuse to use dental materials that are questionable or import cheap overseas alternatives. If we wouldn’t be happy to use a product in our mouths or do the same procedure on our family, we won’t do it on yours.
This commitment to quality is also extended to the technology we use in our practice. We have invested in a CEREC machine that allows us to create same day crowns in-house. We also have dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) machine, a special 3D x-ray machine used in diagnostic situations where regular dental or facial x-rays aren’t sufficient. This ensures we can deliver the best outcomes with dental implants, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry, smile makeovers and wisdom teeth removal.
We are the only local practice to have this latest technology, and a complete digital workflow. As a result, we can serve our patients better and produce precise results and dental work.
We like to take caring for our patients’ one step further, by also being devoted to the community we all live in. We actively support community projects, some of which include sponsoring our local table tennis club and providing a sport scholarship for local student.
We also go to our local day care centres to explain the importance of looking after your teeth and take the time to show children how to brush their teeth properly. Having built a patient-focused practice, we don’t believe in treating you quickly and showing you the door. We like to explain any dental issues or risks thoroughly to you and give you the chance to ask questions about your dental health. We will obviously make recommendations on how we can fix or prevent issues from worsening and explain treatments in detail, though you will always be given the choice of how you would like to proceed.
We don’t believe in rushing our appointments; we take our time to make sure you receive the highest quality of work and are fully informed to make the right decision for you and your family.
But the education doesn’t stop with you, our patients. We also continue to educate our staff on the latest treatments, technologies, and techniques that are used both locally and internationally to provide the highest quality of patient care.
Unlike other practices, here at Goulburn Family and Cosmetic Dental Practice, you will be seeing the same dentist of your choice for every appointment, unless it is an emergency appointment.
Understanding that it can be difficult to see a dentist through the week with work and family commitments, we also offer Saturday morning appointments, allowing you to conveniently schedule an appointment with your dentist at a time that suits you best.
The Goulburn Family and Cosmetic Dental Practice is not owned or controlled by a corporate company nor is it influenced by any health funds. This means that we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach to your dental health, we don’t have targets that must be hit each month and we don’t do gap-free services and then charge more by over servicing to cut corners. Our only focus is your best interest.
To make it easier for you, we have a HICAPS facility to process your health fund claims onsite and we also participate in Child Dental Benefit Scheme (CDBS), where eligible kids from 2-17 years of age can be bulk billed, and the More for Teeth Program by HCF to promote better oral health.
